March Meeting of Quilt Mavens

Quilt Mavens met at Carol’s home this month.  She was a wonderful hostess as always. For our meeting we did not have any business tonight.  Some ladies brought handwork. Jan showed the pattern and fabric for a large paper-pieced wall-hanging she is about ready to start.  Carol showed a block from her Day Bee Mystery quilt and asked the group for some input.   Bonney was doing counted cross-stitch, Marty and Jean were sewing on binding.  Here is Jean’s quilt.

Mary showed a Christmas tree shirt that she made today and her latest duffle bag for her granddaughter.

Beverly modeled her knitted shawl.  It was very beautiful and an interesting design.  Beverly is a very talented knitter.

Quilt Mavens is a fun group for fellowship and sharing of ideas (some quilting).  New members are welcome so you may want to consider attending a meeting.  We will meet at Elizabeth’s home in April.

April Challenge

The Monthly Challenge for April is for "Pillows".   You can make a pillowcase, neck roll, quillow, simple square or any other possible pillow.  It is due at the General Meeting in April.

This sample was made a a friend of Lynne's.

Lynne made a cute Gamecock triangle pillow but I did not get a photo because my camera batteries were low.

Easy - make a block using a pillow, bedroom, or sleep theme.
Advanced - make your pillow.

Judy Lilly's Landscape Workshop

Karen said, "Judy Lilly's landscape workshop was really fun and Judy was so generous in telling how she did each technique.   Hopefully later the class members will share some of their finished projects for show and tell.

March Show and Tell

I try to take photos during the meeting to post.  I am much more successful if the item is on the stage for viewing or the member brings their show to the side specifically for photographing.

 Cindy showed  a t-shirt quilt.
Sandy showed her lovely work.

Bonney has been working on gifts requested by her DH.

Charlotte made this lovely crazy pieced baby quilt for her expected granddaughter.
Deb did some machine embroidery applique on this child's quilt.
Linda showed her quilt right after getting it back quilted from Vicky.
Sandra has been making some dolls.
Only a couple showed the result of the Monthly Challenge.  One said hers went in the trash.
Sandra used metal from Lowes for her creature.

JoAnn used yarn wrapped metal washers to embellish her wall-hanging.
Info on next month's challenge later.

Judy Lilly's Presentation

Judy Lilly gave a trunk show at the regular March meeting.

She showed a few of her early quilts and talked about her color study as she progressed into landscape quilts.

She showed many samples of her work as she talked about things to consider for working on a landscape quilt.  These are only a couple of samples of her work.  She sells the pattern for each of these large flowers.

This close up photo is not the same as seeing in person her beautiful machine work but I hope you can get the idea.  She used fine netting to help create the shadow on the path and free-motion stitching to create dimension on the trees and bushes.

The lower left and right ground cover is actually hundreds of snippets of fabric stitched down.
