Challenge for August 2012

Bag It Up

Can make any bag you want-a purse, tote, grocery bag or the hexagon carryall bag!  Theme should match the type of bag you make (purse could be money, grocery bag have food, etc).
Due at the August 2012 General Meeting.

Easy- bring the bag theme to your block
Advanced- make your bag, or have a bag theme to your entire quilt

Check out the right side bar of the following site for free bag patterns, videos and tutorials:

July's Program

Nancy Brannon presented a trunk show of her work.  Her specialty is hand appliqué but her work includes a wide range of techniques. Here are a few of her many samples.
 Here is a closer look

My photos don't do this justice.  Wish you could see the beading and details.

After lunch Nancy taught a hand appliqué class.  We practiced 2 methods for making narrow stems plus needle turning points and valleys as we appliquéd a heart.  Nancy gave us many valuable tips.

Christmas in July Challenge

Lynne’s challenge for this month was to make a block or project with a Christmas theme and a piece of summer added.
Lynne made a Santa block with summer fabric.
Sandra made a tree lady holding a bag of seashells.

For my block I used templates to piece a tree and appliquéd a bird.

I wish I could get photos of ALL the blocks and projects; but I can not.

July Show and Tell

For me one of the best parts of guild meetings is seeing what others have for Show and Tell.  I appreciate the following members who took the time to come to the side to have photos taken of their projects.  I still missed a couple because I can not show mine at the same time.

Jan made a small quilt for her granddaughter.  She backed it with Minky so it really felt soft.
Clara finished a quilt of swap blocks from Washington state
and a lovely jacket with appliqued flowers.

Jolene shared her quilt of Hawaiian fabric.

Miley has gotten back into quilting after 35 years with a lovely quilt.  She says there are more coming soon.
 Deb shared a lovely wall-hanging

For the June After-after Zohra taught how to make a neat little 3 pocket bag.  Today several showed theirs off.

Happenings at July Day Bee

This morning Bonney hosted the July Day Bee at her home.  Many enjoyed her delicious coffee cake and fruit.  We got a look in her fabulous sewing / quilting room.  For show and tell Mary had 2 completed projects – a 3D ball for her granddaughter

                                  and a handbag.

Rosina worked on adding binding to another child’s comfort quilt.

Jean brought back several comfort quilts that she had put binding on.  Bonney turned in 3 adult quilted comfort quilts that Jean took to add binding.  Dee sent a bag of infant caps made by Kathy H which will go to NICU.  Aren't they adorable?

Lari passed out the final step for our mystery quilt.  You will have to wait for the reveal.  Hopefully several will be finished in the next couple of months.
