Comfort Quilts Report

In October Mary made the last drop off of quilts.  She delivered:
                       9 quilts for PICU,
                      17 for NICU,
                      10 for Oncology,
                        8 for Killingsworth and
10 pillowcases for the Ronald McDonald House

For the year our guild made and delivered a total of
                                     Quilts                            164
                                     Pillowcases                   21
                                     Knitted hats for NICU    26

Comfort Quilts Sew Day

A lot was accomplished today for sew day.  About 7 tops that had been finished needed backing.  Backing were pieced. Here Clara is pressing one.

Bonney had quilted a couple of adult quilts and here she is sewing on binding.

Linda made a pile of pillowcases for Ronald McDonald House.
All are welcome to come help or piece kits at home.

October Quilt Mavens Meeting

Quilt Mavens met Monday night at Janet's.  We enjoyed a tour of her beautiful new home and the special quilts she had displayed around the house.  In the breakfast area she had this unusual old quilt mounted on the wall.

She said it was a $20 find on the back of a pick up truck.

Our group had a surprise for her as an engagement present and housewarming gift. Members had pieced blocks from a variety of batiks.  Bonney assembled and quilted.

Jean was nearing completion of one of her hexagon quilts.

Quilt Mavens will not meet in November or December.

October Show and Tell

The Show and Tell is a favorite part of guild meetings.  Here are some projects shared by members at the October meeting.

Liz made a scrap quilt and one from a printed panel for a child.
The kite shapes on Jolene's quilt are 3D.

This is Marty's quilt top from the Day Bee Mystery.

Sandra made a child's quilt from strips and guided the children in her church music and art camp to create with markers and alcohol.

Zorah had fun making fleece robes for her grandchildren.

Teresa made a special quilt from her father's shirts.

Deb made this quilt from Edtya Sitar's pattern.

Jody Raines for October Meeting

Jody Raines from Inman presented a trunk show of her landscape quilts and thread paintings. She was awarded an artist grant to do works depicting scenic landscapes in the Spartanburg area.  She shared her work and some of her experiences with that. If you are familiar with the Spartanburg area, you may recognize some of these places.

After the program she shared some of her techniques in a workshop on Thread Painting.

Day Bee Mystery Revealed

We had a great group for Day Bee this morning at Deb's home.  The special part was the reveal of the Mystery Quilt that members have been working on all year.  A few who are working on it were not able to bring it to show.  It is wonderful and interesting to see how different they are.
Bev was the only one who actually had her finished.  She made a bed runner and pillow of the extra HSTs.

Jean used scrappy batiks.

Lari used scrappy reproduction Civil War fabric.  Hers is really large but I only took a photo of part.

Deb used very soft colors.

I used all blues and added an applique border to make the design float. I was hoping for some quilting ideas and received several.

There was also show and tell of other projects.
Rosina was finishing the binding on a comfort quilt.

Jan is working on an elegant fabric play castle for her granddaughter.
Kathy showed an adorable child's quilt.

Missy showed 3 bright small quilt tops and wanted some suggestions for quilting.

Challenge for October 2012

            “Rest in Pieces”

Here it is . . .  the very last challenge of the year!  Make a quilt, block or project that is inspired by two things – Halloween and paper-piecing.  You can either combine the two or just use one but let your creativity and your ideas run free!

Due at the October 2012 General Meeting.

Easy - make a block that screams!
Advanced – make an entire quilt with a Halloween or paper-pieced theme

There are a few sites on the internet for free paper-piecing patterns with a Halloween theme.  Check out:
