February Program - Elaine Quehl

For our February meeting we were joined by renowned Canadian quilter/teacher/dyer Elaine Quehl. Elaine was the Canadian Quilters' Association Teacher of the Year for 2015. She is known for her dramatic and colorful nature themed art quilts featuring luscious foliage (particularly host leaves), flowers and trees. In her lecture Elaine shared what she has learned about design and composition over the years.

Here are some of Elaine's tree quilts. Hopefully you can see some of her beautiful quilting in the close-ups.

Elaine is especially fond of hostas and has been published in the Spring 2015 issue of The Hosta Journal (a publication of the American Hosta Society).

All the fabric used in her artwork is hand-dyed by Elaine to provide the wide range of value she uses to create the depth and drama she achieves in her quilts.
Elaine also sells her hand-dyed fabrics online. If you are interested, just go to her website: http://www.elainequehl.com.
