Comfort Quilt Sew Day Resumes

   Charity Quilts has been renamed “Comfort Quilts”.   We did not meet for a Sew Day in July and August but are resuming for September.  Sew Day will be Tuesday, Sept. 25^th.   There are precut kits to work on if you bring a sewing machine or there will probably be tops ready for batting and backing to be cut.

     I have been working on a UFO from Kathy Houser.  I was using it for my leaders and enders. Now it is past that stage.  I had rows pinned on my design wall but my design wall is not large enough for all the rows.  So I spread them out on my kitchen “design floor” to see them all at once.  I’m glad I did because I noticed there were 2 rows that had the same fabric adjacent so I switched a couple. 

I have 18 rows that will finish at 57 by 72” and there is still a pile of pieces left, probably enough for another adult quilt.  I don't know when I will get to it because of my own UFOs so maybe someone else would like to try this pattern. 

     At our September general meeting we had a silent auction of hand made, baked and grown items as our guild fundraiser.  I was the lucky winner of an adorable stepstool made by Carol’s husband Dean.  I think my oldest granddaughter will be excited to use it.

There was a wide variety of items.  I believe the hottest items were a quilted purse and duffle bag made by Clara.   She showed them last month. 

June's Comfort Quilts Sew Day

      Mary brought several boxes of donated fabric that needed sorting. 

Some members worked on sewing together kits.

Some worked to add binding onto quilted tops.

A couple worked on adding labels to those ready to be distributed. 

A lot was accomplished this morning.  Comfort Quilts Sew Days will not be held in July or August and members are encouraged to sew at home on comfort quilt kits.  Mary will have kits available at the general meetings.

Charity Sew Day

     Fourth Tuesday of each month is charity sew day in the small room.  We had at least 12 members working and 8 stayed for lunch of soup made by Mary and more goodies brought by other members.  We got a lot of work done.  Here are some of the finished quilts that were turned in today.

November Charity Sew

   Because we had a very small group today at Charity Sew, we were able to pull all the fabric bins down and organize.   Jean is working on our old supply of needles from when our guild use to tie adult quilts.  Now they all get machine quilted thanks to several of our long-arm quilters.

     As a thank you for all he does to help at our guild meetings, the guild is giving Karl a quilt for Christmas.  Jean and Rosina pieced and Bonney quilted. It is lovely.

 

Charity Sew Tuesday

     This is the first post for the new Greater Columbia Quilters Blog.  It is hoped that many members will post to this blog in the future to show others the many happenings going on in our great guild.     

This morning was the charity sew meeting.  We spent the morning sorting fabric, cutting squares and 2 1/2" strips.  We felt like we accomplished a lot.  These photos show some of the work going on.

The fellowship was also great while working and during a lunch of homemade Taco soup and many wonderful side dishes shared by the workers.
